Innovative new classes for 2009 |
| In a continuing effort to respond to the needs and talents of our artistic community, we have revised some disciplines, adding new competition classes for the upcoming season: |
|
| Band Instruments: |
This section was restructured to add graded brass, winds and percussion classes, from Grades 7 to Diploma and beyond. This will make the transition from Local to Provincial to National Music Festivals seamless. |
| Ensembles: | A separate section for Duos and Ensembles has been created to encourage students to learn to play in ensemble, whatever their chosen instruments. Family ensembles are included, as are Junior and Senior chamber groups headed to Provincials.. |
| Dance: | Separate awards for music theatre dancers who sing their own songs are offered.. (Microphones are provided, if requested in advance.) We have also added a class specifically for high school groups. |
| Piano: | Senior piano, particularly Diploma and Open classes, have been revised to allow a seamless transition to Provincials and Nationals. |
| School Music: | Elementary band as a non-competitive class will be offered again this year, as will percussion classes for all levels. |
| Strings: | Suzuki classes have been added, so students will have the choice of Graded or Suzuki classes. Senior strings, including Guitar classes, have been revised to allow a seamless transition to Provincials and Nationals. |
| Vocal: | Our highly successful "triple sensation" classes, for students who like to sing, act and dance, will be offered again this year. The CBC series "Triple Sensation", which goes to air in January, may give you some ideas for repertoire. |
