Kiwanis Club of Stratford
Builders Club
Milverton Public School

The Builders Club at Milverton Public School meets weekly during their first lunch break every Wednesday. There are sixteen members drawn from Grades 6, 7 and 8, ably led by a four-person executive headed by President, Ryan. Kiwanis Club of Stratford President, Bonnie Richardson attended their meeting on November 3, and enjoyed their youthful enthusiasm. At the sound of the lunch bell, the members began filing into the meeting room in an orderly fashion, preceded by the members of the executive who took turns surreptitiously trying out the Kiwanis bell. The first order of business was the announcement of the executive's decision to designate the Canadian Cancer Society and the Kiwanis Kid's Care Centre as the two charities that the club would be supporting this year. They were planning to hold a Hockey Shoot-out and a Basketball Free Throw Competition to raise funds. The Hockey Shoot-out, a contest requiring skill and finesse, will be held in early December with participants paying $1.00 for a chance to get the puck past a plastic goalie and into the net. Committees were quickly organized for the set up/take down of the equipment, the gate, and advertising. The entire meeting was conducted as the members chewed quietly on their lunches and ended with the gong of the Kiwanis bell just as their school bell called the junior Kiwanians to other activities.

On Wednesday, April 27, the Builders Club sent an interclub delegation to the Division 5 West Caucus meeting in Stratford. At this time President Ryan reported that the club had raised over $400 to donate to their designated charities. In addition they had participated in a variety of service projects, including assisting the Kiwanis Club of Stratford by collecting donations for the Christmas Basket Fund along the Santa Claus Parade route, and acting as runners at the Club's Trivia Challenge Night. Two members of the Milverton Builder's Club were sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Stratford to attend the Key Leader Camp in September, 2005.
